Community Guidelines
Last updated: April 2026
Our Mission
LostPlacesIndex exists to document and preserve the memory of abandoned places — responsibly. These guidelines exist to ensure our community remains a trustworthy, respectful, and safe archive for explorers, historians, and curious minds worldwide.
Content Standards
- Submit only places you have personally visited or can verify through credible sources
- Provide accurate location data, historical context, and honest descriptions
- Upload original photographs you own or have rights to share
- Do not fabricate, exaggerate, or sensationalise location details
- Respect the historical and cultural significance of documented places
Safety & Legal Responsibility
LostPlacesIndex does not encourage trespassing, illegal entry, or any activity that puts you or others at risk. When submitting a place:
- Do not include information that actively facilitates illegal access
- Include appropriate safety warnings where relevant
- Do not share information about places where access is actively dangerous to the public
- Respect local laws and property rights
Respectful Conduct
- Treat other community members with respect in comments and reports
- Do not harass, threaten, or intimidate other users
- Do not post content that is discriminatory, hateful, or offensive
- Constructive criticism of submissions is welcome; personal attacks are not
